Where do all the old web pages go ?

They are stored, tucked away where only the most deeply sad people can find them.

What happens to old web pages when they are no longer needed ? Pages that we used to regularly look at and read but are now out of date. The exciting events that they used to tell us about, have slipped into the past and nobody needs the pages any more. Some of them quietly shuffle into the background, sad and lonely, they sit in the parts of web-sites that visitors no longer go to. Who wants to read about things that are over and finished?

In their sad decline these poor unwanted pages have to watch as new pages are born. Filled with the most wonderful, bright shiny content, new pages burst to the front of the site showing their wonders to any passing visitor who casts even a glance in their direction. All this attention to the new and the flashy, makes the dowdy old pages press themselves even more into the background. where sad and neglected they sink into obscurity. For some, a simple broken link finally spells the end. Cast loose and adrift into the limitless void, they limp on in a ghostly half existence. Unseen and untraceable, linked to nothing and seen by none, their fate is to persist in this state of purgatory for all eternity. (for a while anyway)
Others may be spared this fate by the swift, merciful knife of deletion.

Freed from the imprisoning hard disc their bites and pixels are released into cyber-space, where they float free as they await their call to once again join a multitude of others and together receive the miracle of life. Passing through the upload of birth to the server of existence they strive to achieve the Nirvana of being known by Google. Then they all live happily ever after.

To spare them this fate our old pages are kept here in an archive. I can't honestly think why anybody would want to look at old pages, however what is certain is that if I delete them then somebody will want them the next day.
So when I remove files from the site I will dump them in one of the folders below. Feel free to help yourself should you ever need to. If over time I accumulate too many photos then I will store the higher resolution ones on a disc at home to save paid for server space.
